Information for First-Time Visitors
Ashram FAQs
Please take a few minutes to read this page thoroughly.
Reservations & Arrival
Reservations are required for all visits (day guests and retreats).
First-time retreatants must arrive on Fridays (exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis — please contact us).
Last-minute? Text (207) 578-8227 or call (207) 485-1228 (we may not see email in time).
Our Setting
Expect to spend time outdoors moving between temples on forest paths.
Weather can shift quickly in Maine — pack sturdy footwear and seasonal clothing.
We are secluded and off-grid. (Industry, ME is not high-elevation by mountain standards, but because of our hillside forest location, evenings and mornings tend to be cooler than in nearby towns.)
Cell service does not reach us; limited internet is available only when essential. Parents or caregivers may give family our contact numbers for peace of mind. Reliable cell service is a 5-minute drive from the Ashram.
Accommodations
Guest houses: two bedrooms, shared common space and bathroom.
Cabins: rustic yet comfortable — solar lighting, odor-free composting toilets, wood heat (we manage the stove), fresh mountain air “AC,” hand-pumped water and hot shower.
Tenting (May–September): bring your own tent/gear. Includes outhouse access, unlimited spring water, and use of our sauna bathhouse.
Simple, natural, and off-grid — ideal for focused practice.
Food & Diet
All meals are whole-foods, vegan, and sattvic (the Yogic principle of balance), prepared by skilled Yogi chefs. (Guests consistently rave about the food!)
Served communally with residents and fellow guests, buffet-style at 11:00am and 5:30pm.
Morning: lemon water, fruit, or herbal tea. Afternoon: light refreshments.
Gluten-free diets accommodated, though food is prepared in a facility that contains gluten.
No coffee, alcohol, stimulants, meat, dairy, eggs, fish, onions, or garlic are served — or permitted onsite.
If you are concerned about being hungry, you may bring non-perishable vegan snacks (free of onion/garlic, natural ingredients) or fresh fruit.
Clothing & Essentials
Modest, loose, comfortable clothing is requested; natural fibers are ideal.
Activities include seated meditation, postural practice, walking meditation, and nature immersion.
Bring season-appropriate layers, sturdy shoes, and rain gear.
Guidelines
No alcohol, drugs, stimulants, or intoxicants.
Please leave pets and unnecessary valuables at home.
Security: Our Ashram is a safe, family-style environment. In over 30 years, we have never experienced theft. Most buildings are kept unlocked, in keeping with our way of life. (If you wish, bring a lockbox for personal peace of mind.)
Getting Here
Use our directions: Ashram Directions. GPS often misroutes to a snowmobile trail.
If you get lost and require a pickup, we may need to charge $25/hour due to the time involved.
Winter/spring: Let us know if you drive a low-clearance or 2WD vehicle so we can advise on road conditions.
Practical Details
Electricity: limited solar outlets are available for essential charging in main buildings.
Financial accessibility: group rates and work-exchange options are available for those with genuine financial need.
Payments: In the event you cannot pay in full at the time of booking, contact us and a 20% non-refundable deposit holds your place. Balance due 60 days before retreat.
Refunds: payments (minus deposit) are refundable up to 60 days before retreat. Within 60 days, payments (and deposits) may be transferred once to another retreat within 6 months.
